In July my son Beau and I participated in the Race for Life, raising money for Cancer Research UK. Joined by Beau's school friends and their families, we set out to run 5 kilometres on what turned out to be a blisteringly hot day. The sun was relentless, but so was my son's determination to contribute to a cause that touches so many lives.
As the day began, the excitement in the air was building. Beau, just 9 years old, was buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. It was heartwarming to see him and his friends so eager to make a difference. Especially as one of his school friends sadly lost his Dad to cancer earlier in the year. We all wore our matching Race for Life shirts, pinned with the names of loved ones we were running for.
The race kicked off with a burst of energy, and despite the heat, Beau and his friends took off with surprising speed. I was proud to see how they encouraged each other, proving that even at a young age, they understood the importance of teamwork and support. The heat was intense, but water stations and cheering crowds provided much-needed relief and motivation. Running alongside Beau was a special experience.
Together with his friends and their families, we managed to raise over £2000 for Cancer Research UK. It was a testament to the power of community and the impact even the smallest runners can make when they come together for a cause.
